What is CBD?
CBD is the abbreviation for cannabidiol. It is a compound found in the hemp plant. It is then extracted and added to either a carrier oil as a tincture, or vape product. It can also be taken as an edible, topical and transdermal. You can smoke the CBD hemp flower as well, but Seaweed does not carry the flower at this time.
Where is CBD found?
The CBD that we carry in our store is a compound derived from the hemp plant. CBD is also found in the cannabis plant, although usually in lower quantities than its counterpart THC. All of the products in our store carry less than .3% THC and many carry NO THC. .3% THC is not enough to get you high, or even have you feeling ‘weird’.
Are you sure CBD won’t get me high?
Yes, but you may feel a sense of well being, relaxation or decreased sensation of pain. We source our products from reputable companies that do 3rd party testing to be sure you are getting pure CBD with no pesticides, heavy metals or other contaminants. These 3rd party testing companies also test for THC levels and additional testing to be sure you are getting the actual amount of CBD on the label. We also source companies that do testing because want to make sure you don't get high. This is why we do not advise buying your CBD online or from a gas station or convenience store in which the source cannot be verified.
Is CBD legal?
Yes! In December 2018 Congress passed the Farm Bill, allowing hemp derived products that are produced in the manner consistent with the Farm Bill to be produced and distributed legally in all states. Here is a great link to details on the Farm Bill of 2018 https://www.brookings.edu/blog/fixgov/2018/12/14/the-farm-bill-hemp-and-cbd-explainer/
Can I travel with CBD?
Yes! Domestic flights have been approved for CBD in your luggage and carry on bags. https://www.tsa.gov/travel/security-screening/whatcanibring/items/medical-marijuana
How does CBD work?
This is a lengthy one and if you want more detailed info, our staff would love to answer your questions in the store. The Endocannabinoid system regulates your body. You have receptors all over you’re your body, mostly on the nervous system and CBD bonds to those receptors and also helps your body release its own cannabinoids, making everything run just a little bit smoother. CBD also activates or inhibits functions of the endocannabinoid system resulting in easing anxiety, reducing inflammation, regulating mood and memory, boosting immunity and decreasing the sensation of pain. It also calms the skin, has been shown to be a neuroprotectant.
How much CBD do I need?
More is not better. It’s important to find the ‘sweet spot’. For an average person 20-30mg is usually sufficient. We say to start at 10mg and increase from there until your symptoms are relieved. If you are having pain or anxiety, dosing twice a day or using an oil and ingestible or vape product may help. Higher doses of CBD have been shown to be energizing so do not take more than 10mg before bed. You can also microdose throughout the day. Start with tea, then a mid day mint, a tincture at dinner and a gummy before bed. Although most people notice the effects of CBD right away, it takes about 4 days of consistent use to see it’s full effects. This is true for topical application as well.
Full spectrum, Broad Spectrum, Isolate?
We carry mostly full spectrum oils in the store. These are made from the whole plant so you get all the yummy terpenes to go with your CBD. It’s like the full meal deal instead of just the sandwich. Legal full spectrum CBD has to have less than .3% THC
We also have Broad spectrum which has no trace of THC.
Then there is isolate which is pure CBD extracted from the plant. It looks like white powder and has no terpenes. It’s still effective but usually less expensive and less targeted to a specific result like pain or anxiety.
